Memorial for Dr. Joseph L. Assini
The medical staff and administration of Greenwood Leflore Hospital extend condolences to the family of Dr. Joseph L. Assini who passed away at Greenwood Leflore Hospital on Friday, May 14.
Dr. Assini was a native of Brooklyn, New York who had podiatry practices in Brooklyn and on Staten Island before coming to Greenwood Leflore Hospital in 2012 to work as a podiatrist at the Greenwood Leflore Foot Center. He was board certified by the American Board of Podiatry Medicine. Dr. Assini received his medical degree in 1983 from New York College of Podiatric Medicine and completed his preceptorship in 1984 at Lutheran Medical Center in Brooklyn, New York. He was a diplomat of the American Board of Podiatric Surgery and a Diplomat of the American Board of Podiatric Orthopedics and Primary Podiatric Medicine. Dr. Assini was also a Fellow of the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons and a Fellow of the American College of Foot and Ankle Orthopedics. Passionate about his work and the patients he served, Dr. Assini created a campaign to promote diabetes awareness across the Mississippi Delta.
A Memorial Mass will be held on Tuesday, June 8, 2021 at 10:00 a.m. at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, located at 511 West Washington Street in Greenwood. A light reception will follow at the Parish Center.
Dr. Assini will be deeply missed by his colleagues, his co-workers and his patients.
