The medical staff and administration of Greenwood Leflore Hospital extend condolences to the family of Dr. James V. Ferguson, Jr. who passed away on Saturday, April 29, 2023.
A native of North Carrollton, Mississippi, Dr. Ferguson grew up in Winona, Mississippi.
He attended the University of Mississippi for his pre-med and graduated from its School of Medicine in 1959. Upon completing his internship at Erlanger Hospital in Chattanooga, Tennessee, Dr. Ferguson practiced family medicine for three years. He then furthered his education by completing a radiology residency at University of Mississippi Medical Center. Dr. Ferguson practiced as a radiologist in Greenwood for over 30 years, retiring in 1999.
Dr. Ferguson served two terms as chief of staff of Greenwood Leflore Hospital. He served on the Mississippi State Board of Health and as its chairman for two years. He was founding chairman of the Guardian Society within the Medical Alumni chapter and served as president of the Ole Miss Medical Alumni.
Dr. Ferguson will be deeply missed by his former colleagues, co-workers and his patients.
