Greenwood Leflore Hospital has been awarded a federal grant to upgrade its wellness and rehabilitation center.
The $28,202 grant will be put toward buying new fitness equipment.
The hospital’s rehabilitation director, John Cook, said the hospital’s staff has been working on the grant for two years.
“We’re very excited about this,” Cook said. “We’re always trying to stay on the cutting edge with the most up-to-date equipment.”
The equipment will be used for physical therapy and outpatient rehabilitation. The hospital’s rehabilitation equipment — which includes treadmills and stationary bikes as well as free weights — is also available for public use as a fitness center.
The funds were awarded by the U.S. Department of Agriculture as part of its rural development program, which helps support rural communities and improve public infrastructure through loans and grants.
